William Attea, Chair
was one of the founding principals of HYA in 1987. From 1979-94, he served as Superintendent of the Glenview (IL) Public Schools. Prior to that position, he served as Director of Instructional Services in the Wilmette (IL) Public Schools. From 1990-2007, Dr. Attea was the Executive Secretary of the Suburban School Superintendents, a national organization of 100 superintendents representing many of the most highly regarded suburban school districts in the nation.Dr. Attea received his B.A. from Niagara University and his Ed.M. and Ed.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
John Connolly, Treasurer
served as Superintendent of Schools for 32 years in four school districts, most recently in Highland Park, Texas and Chappaqua, New York. He is currently the Executive Director of The Education Cooperative, a regional service center in Dedham, Massachusetts.Dr. Connolly received a B.A. and M.S. from St. John’s University and an Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Timothy Daniels
is the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Charter Schools, a state association with more than 150 school and business organizations. Dr. Daniels served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and Assistant Superintendent of Business Affairs in Upper Darby (PA). In 1995, Dr. Daniels was named the Director of the Office of Educational Initiatives in Pennsylvania. This office helped shape Pennsylvania’s charter school law. and oversaw the opening of the first 67 charter schools in Pennsylvania between 1997 and 2000.Dr. Daniels received his B.A. from Bucknell University, his M.A. from Harvard University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Keith Frankland
retired after 36 years as the Executive Director of the Woodridge (IL) Park District. Keith is president of the division of HYA comprised of retired and employed park district executive directors from across the nation. They specialize in executive searches for park and recreation agencies and non-for-profit organizations.Mr. Frankland received his B.A. from Western Illinois University and completed an Executive Development Program at Indiana University.
Arthur Jones, Vice Chair
is a former school superintendent whose career in this capacity spanned 22 years. During this time he served the Chicago suburban school districts of Forest Park, Glen Ellyn, and Lake Forest. After retiring from education, he joined Forest Park National Bank as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer and retired from banking in June 2006, after 12 years in this role.Dr. Jones earned his B.A. in Secondary Education from Marshall University (WV), his M.A. in Guidance and Counseling from West Virginia University, and his Ed.D. in Educational Administration from Loyola University (Chicago).
Joan Levy, Secretary
served 20 years as an Illinois school board member: six on the Winnetka Board of Education and 14 on the New Trier (Winnetka/Northfield) Township High School Board of Education. She was elected President of both Boards, and also served a two-year term as President of the Illinois Association of School Boards. One of the original HYA associates, Joan joined the firm in 1991 and has participated in more than 100 superintendent searches.Ms. Levy is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan, and received her M.A. in history from Columbia University.
Sam Mikaelian
has held most administrative positions associated with an elementary school district including Director of Summer School, elementary and middle school principal, Director of Pupil Personnel and Special Education, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and Superintendent of Schools. After completing hi school-related positions, Dr. Mikaelian was appointed the Executive Director of a non-profit organization in New York City. He has been with HYA since 1998.Dr. Mikaelian received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, his M.A. from Columbia University, and his Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
Jane Westerhold
is currently the Superintendent of Community Consolidated School District 62 in Des Plaines (IL). Prior to this role, she was the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services of Valley View (IL) School District 365U and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction of the Wauconda (IL) School District 118.Dr. Westerhold received her B.S. from Illinois State, her M.S. from Southern Illinois University, and her Ed.D. from Loyola University (Chicago).
